Q: How much caffeine is there in your teas?

A: It depends on the type of tea and how long it is steeped.  Black teas have the most caffeine usually equivalent to half a cup of coffee.  Green teas and white teas have the least amount of caffeine.

Q: Do you have decaffeinated teas?

A: Yes. Passion for Hawaii using the CO2 process, a chemical free process which removes caffeine from tea.  Also herbal and tisane infusions are caffeine free because they are botanical plants that are not tea.

Q: Is there a way to lessen the amount of caffeine in a tea?

A: Yes.  If you add a small amount of boiling water to barely cover the tea and steep it for one minute and then drain the water, you have effectively removed 75 to 80% of the caffeine.  After draining out the water, add the usual amount to your tea and steep.  The tea you make this way will have most of its caffeine removed.  This is a great way for black iced tea lovers to drink it all day without getting a caffeine buzz.

Q: What is the best way for a coffee drinker to switch to tea?

A: Recommend they drink a strong black morning tea like Irish Breakfast and steep for 4 minutes.  This tea has a lot of caffeine in it and has some body and flavor that coffee drinkers like, especially men.

Q: Can the same tea leaves be used for several infusions?

A: Yes if it is good quality.  The Chinese teas we carry especially lend themselves to multiple infusions when made in small quantities.  All of our teas are Superior or even Imperial grade which is good for at least 5 small infusions.

Q: How many cups of tea can be made from our teas?

A: Rule of thumb is: 2 ounces makes about 20 cups. 4 ounces makes about 35-40 cups

Q: How do I get started in trying new teas?

A: Try one of our samplers of tea featuring: black teas, Asian teas or herbal infusions.
